Common Scottish Gaelic words and phrases

  • Fàilte (pronouced. 'fal-chey) "Welcome!
  • Halò (pro. 'hallo') "Hello!"
  • Ciamar a tha sibh? (pro. 'kimmar ah ha shiv') "How are you?"(formal)
  • Ciamar a tha thu? (pro. 'kimmar ah ha oo') "How are you?" (informal)
  • Tha mi gu math (pro. 'ha mee goo mah') "I'm fine" (formal and informal)
  • Ciamar a tha sibh fhèin? (pro. 'kimmar ah ha shiv hane') "How are you yourself?" (formal)
  • Ciamar a tha thu fhèin? (pro. 'kimmar ah ha oo hane') "How are you yourself?"(informal)
  • Tapadh leibh (pro. 'tapah layv') "Thank you" (formal)
  • Tapadh leat (pro. 'tapah latt') "Thank you" (informal)
  • Dè an t-ainm a th’oirbh (pro. dyae an tenim a hirruv) "What is your name?" (formal)
